On the 15th and 16th of July Qhubeka will be launching the Qhubeka 5000 campaign. This will be a 48-hour interactive fundraising initiative spearheaded by Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka that aims to raise enough funds for 5000 bicycles. During Stages 13 & 14 of the Tour de France Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka will pledge themselves to the cause, leading the  #BicyclesChangeLives campaign.

Qhubeka is a non-profit that aims to mobilise individuals through bicycles. By providing a bicycle as a means of transport we empower individuals with greater access to healthcare, education and other basic amenities.

Participants of the JBay Wind Farm MTB Classic can pledge their ride during the event in support of Qhubeka 5000 and help raise awareness for the cause.

One lucky participant of Qhubeka 5000 and his or her partner will also be randomly chosen to join Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka’s training this November.

How the Qhubeka 5 000 works

To coincide with the TdF, people can register to ride on 15 and 16 July, be it with friends on the road, in a spinning class or on an indoor trainer. The fee to participate is $10 (around R155), with all funds raised going towards funding 5 000 bicycles this year.

Simply go to Qhubeka5000.org and pay your registration fee of $10 to participate. You will receive a digital race pack and be entered into a draw to win a once-in-lifetime opportunity to be part of Team Dimension Data for Qhubeka’s team training camp in Cape Town, South Africa in November 2016, for you and a partner.
