The annual JBay Winterfest will take place from 6 – 17 July 2016 and it promises to be even bigger and better than last year.
Visitors from all over South Africa, as well as international tourists flock to Jeffreys Bay every winter to take part in some of the events on offer during the Winterfest, or to chill on the beach and watch the world’s best surfers battle it out at Supertubes during the JBay Open.
Locals will be hoping that South African Jordy Smith will be fit and hungry to regain the JBay Open title, after suffering from injury in the 2015 event.
“The JBU Supertrial will take place prior to the JBay Open and we will give an opportunity to a South African surfer to win a wildcard into the main event,” said organiser Koffie Jacobs.
Last year JBay local Dylan Lightfoot won the Supertrial and came up against formidable opponents in Kelly Slater and Gabriel Medina. This year, Durban based surfer Slade Prestwich won the Supertrial.
“It would be an honour to be invited to compete in the JBU Supertrial again and have another crack at taking on the world’s best surfers at Supertubes, which is my homebreak,” said Dylan Lightfoot, who will be leaving for Hawaii shortly to tame the beast that is Pipeline in the Volcom Pipe Pro.
Most of the events from this year have been confirmed for the JBay Winterfest ’16 with trial running, mountain biking, skateboarding, cold water swimming, fishing, Oakley X-Over, junior surf event and a Funduro all part of the mix once again.
There will be plenty of live music to entertain visitors in the evening after a hard day’s surfing or competing in one of the numerous events on offer.
